Web Design

Physical web design takes place using a coding language called html. Colours and basic layouts are similar to print design but there are a few fundamental differences between web ready and print ready resources.

  • Logos should appear top right on a web page – so they’re easily recognisable.
  • Navigation bar or tabs should appear prominently on the left or top or a page – making it easy to navigate.
  • Content should be uniform and not confusing.
  • Text, graphics and video are acceptable forms of content.
  • Links are used to reference supporting information.

Print Design

With print almost any design style goes! The colour modes are different to that of web – print saved colour modes should be CYMK and web is RGB. The advantage print design has over web design is, designs aren’t limited to what will work and render correctly on screen. Print design can be just as creative on small business cards as it can be on large pop up displays.

Which Is Best?

Well the reality is that we need both! Web design is required to advertise towards a target audience not in the immediate vicinity. Print Design is a quick and easy method to market towards your day to day trade and existing customers (something that can be handed to them).

Web Design is more complex and often more time intensive, therefore it is more expensive compared to print design.

Printed stationary is a must for all business marketing. Websites are seen as a longer term marketing strategy based on their cost.
